We are pleased to announce that we have agreed to a new renewable electricity contract with Drax Energy Solutions through the Galloway Hydropower scheme. This 12-month agreement, which commenced in October 2024, ensures that all the electricity we use is backed by Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) in a bundled arrangement, directly linked to hydropower-generated energy.
The Drax Galloway scheme, established in 1936 in southwest Scotland, was Great Britain’s first large-scale integrated hydropower complex. Comprising six hydropower stations, it generates electricity in response to demand by releasing stored water from reservoirs to spin turbines. Drax also actively supports environmental stewardship through its Biodiversity Action plan and works closely with the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency to support wildlife habitats and advance nature restoration projects.
Clays CEO, Edoardo Cuomo, said “As a business we are committed to improving our impact on the environment, with the mission to achieve net-zero by 2050. We are pleased to announce that our operations are now powered by 100% renewable electricity.”
This switch will reduce our scope 2 market-based emissions to zero for the duration of the contract. It marks a major milestone in our journey towards achieving a 46.2% reduction in our scopes 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 and net-zero by 2050, aligned with our Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitment.
