Stickering

The stickering of books is increasingly common. Each day Clays applies literally thousands of promotional, correction or barcode stickers to our customers' books.

We offer a quick, efficient and flexible service using either our own stickers or those provided by you.

This service allows you to respond quickly to market requirements and to correct the occasional mistakes that inevitably happen.

Promotional stickers

Correction stickers

Barcode stickers

Wherever possible, we sticker our cased books on machine and pack in line.

Paperbacks have the covers pre-stickered prior to binding and packing.

If the stickers are not available at the time of manufacturing, we can store the books on site for a short time, sticker and then repack.

If you would like any more details about stickering, please contact your Clays representative or account executive who will be pleased to answer any queries.

Shrink Wrapping

You may wish to consider the benefits that shrink wrapping can provide for presentation, security, protection and to hold a loose product in a book.

We have the ability to shrink wrap individual books, multiple books or boxsets.

Presentation packs

For books or packs up to 80mm, we recommend 15micron film. This is a light gloss film with very neat joints and seams, giving a high quality finish and feel.

Bigger Packs or Protection Shrink Wrap

For the bigger packs, we recommend 25micron film, which gives a very stable, solid pack. The joints and seams are bigger, but this film provides greater strength and durability.

Packaging

For onward deliveries we recommend the protection of single walled cartons

slip cases

Slip Cases

Placing books in slip cases, either individually or in multiples, is an ideal way to add value to your products. Slip cases come in two main forms, the fast, effective and versatile flexi-case, or the more substantial rigid slip cases.

Flexi Cases

This is a slip case which, as it's name suggests, is flexible, has a "tuck in back" and is usually printed and laminated.

  • Ideal for longer runs (above 3000) special sales projects.
  • Suitable for individual books or sets up to 200mm.
  • Can be thumb cut.
  • Are cheaper and faster to produce than rigid cases on long runs.

On sets up to 130mm in size, the normal specification is 300gsm board doubled over to give a 600gsm effect. On sets that are above 130mm, 350gsm board is used to give a 700gsm effect.

Rigid Cases

This is the traditional slip cased box. These cases are normally printed and laminated, but they can also be Cloth (Wibalin) covered for around the same price. Ideal for higher specification projects, or shorter runs, they are also suitable for heavier sets up to 700 mm wide.

If you would like any more details on any of the above, please contact your Clays representative or account executive. We can email you with a PDF design template on request, subject to receiving details of the contents for sizing.

cds

CD Insertion

We can insert CDs or DVDs anywhere in paperbacks or cased books. They can be glued into position (normally inside the cover) or inserted loose and then shrink wrapped.

Clays supply CD/DVD and wallet

If you require a quote for this then contact your account executive or contact us.

Customer supplied

We normally receive CDs in wallets which we then glue on to the cover or case. These can also be shrink wrapped onto or into a book, or loose inserted.

If you would like any more details, or a quote, please contact your Clays representative or account executive.

Signed Copies

Author signed copies are now an important selling tool. We can arrange individual numbering for each copy if required. We can provide:

Book signing

Individual pages for the author to sign.

This is fast and easy to handle, and can be done at their convenience prior to, or after production. These pages are then glued into the books (as a tip).

Books to sign

This is more difficult for the author, because of the sheer bulk of the books. We can arrange for books to be specially packed and delivered to a home address to make this process easier.

General Handwork

Using our experienced team of bindery workers we can handle intricate and complex upgrades, modifications or repairs to paperbacks and cased books.

Inserts

These can be loose or glued and can be placed anywhere in the book. Popular inserts include CDs, booklets, promotional material and bookmarks.

Tips

We can glue in many types of papers and materials to provide colour, highlight an area or to add marketing material.

Wraps

This is a great way of adding colour to a book by wrapping one section round another.

Belly-bands

With a vast variety of shapes, sizes and colours, belly-bands are an excellent promotional aide. They can be tucked in or wrapped around the whole book and can be applied to either paperbacks or cased books.

Cancels

Mistakes do happen. However, we can correct them, meaning that you don't have to live with it or destroy the books. We can do many remarkable repairs to books saving you thousands of pounds on the cost of a reprint.

Strip & Rebinds

If you need to 'repackage' a book, hardback or paperback, we can 'strip' off the old cover and put a new one on.

Packaging

We pack books to suit individual customers. These include:

  • make up and fill dumpbins and counter packs.
  • pack boxes to specific quantities.
  • individual mailings in postal cartons.

Deliveries

We will deliver fast (same or next day) direct to warehouses, wholesalers, bookshops or to individual addresses.

Warehouses & Wholesalers

These deliveries are palletised and a proof of delivery (POD) with an actual signature and printed name is available in real-time. To discuss accessing this POD information, please contact your sales rep.

Bookshop Deliveries

These books need to be cartoned prior to despatch. We put a standard pack into a carton and then send through a national carrier direct to the High Street stores. This service is fully traceable with POD with a signature available.

Individual Mailings

Often part of a run is sent to a list of individuals. These are cartoned, labelled and despatched. We will source the cheapest delivery method or we can use your contracts.

Ordering Direct Deliveries

Often when you place the print order you will not have the details for your Direct Deliveries. You can order direct deliveries up to lunchtime on the day of despatch and we will deliver NEXT DAY. To help you with this process we have developed an online, secure, real-time ordering system at www.claysonline.com. To see a demonstration, please contact your sales representative.
